Yerma
Yerma written by Garcia Lorca is script that involves multiple characters but the main two characters are Yerma and Juan who are a married couple who have yet to conceive a child. A script that tells the tale of love turned to hate, desperation, and unfulfilled dreams Lorca's Yerma is a drama with no doubt about it.
Lorca's drama can be a story to relate to for some but obviously not all and the way the script flows gives it soap opera feel in a way, when she is asking him about kids and he gives her the runaround which leads to so much more. One of the best things about the script in my opinion is how vivid the lines are with everything down to talking about food it becomes easy to imagine the events unfolding in your head while still giving it a sense of flexibility in how to imagine it as so many plays have already done.
I rather enjoyed Lorca's play although it is not something that I can relate to in real life it reminds me of spanish soap opera's my parents watch and adds a certain twist in the end that is depicted in the picture above produced by Wickham productions.

'Night Mother review
Night Mother written by Marsha Norman tells the story of a mother, (Thelma Cates "Mama") and her daughter (Jessie Cates). Jessie has had enough of living her life and tells her mother that she intends on killing herself. A story of desperation and frustration 'Night Mother delivers a melting pot of emotion that I felt pushed me to keep reading to the very end.
Norman's script is one of the most human things I have read and I feel is something that can be related to those who might have felt the same way at one point or another whether it be from Jessie's point of view or from Mama's. The particular scene that makes me believe that is when Jessie and Mama are struggling with each other and Jessie gets past her and locks the door meanwhile Mama pleads to the very end and once its all said and done she still follows Jessie's final wish of calling her brother and scrubbing the pan.
One of the defining features of Night mother is the fact that its the very last night between a mother and daughter and it's so imminent that the feeling of helplessness isn't just there for Mama but for the reader also and not just helplessness but many other emotions that seem to connect and manifest themselves even though they are just words on paper and one can only imagine what a live production of this must feel like with the right ambiance and the right actors.

Suddenly last summer review
Suddenly Last Summer written by Tennessee Williams depicts an intricate tale of deceit and secrets that slowly unravels as the truth comes to light. A story about a man's death and the secrets he was hiding this story revolves around the living characters while still maintaining the presence of the deceased Sebastian in the background either through talk of him or by being in his beloved garden which becomes decrepit over time due to lack of care for the multiple types of plants present in the garden
This script gives the image of the rich doing whatever they please with the poor as shown by the revelation of where Sebastian was and what he was doing there. Sebastian was revealed to be a homosexual who would go on escapades and pay the poor to spend time with him. This was revealed by none other than Sebastian's cousin who tells the story of his demise. His mother refusing to believe this attempts to have Catherine lobotomized but it does not pan out in the end and the truth is revealed.
The picture above, from South Camden theatre productions, shows Ms Venable who was Sebastian's mother and doctor Sugar. Ms Venable can also be seen as one of the rich who treat the poor as less than human by the way she treats Ms Foxhill she is constantly mean to her and never expresses any gratitude for her servitude.
It can also be seen in this play how far some are willing to go to protect a reputation as seen throughout the play where Ms Venable does not want it leaked that her son was gay and even goes as far as to call it an attack on character that Sebastian is unable to defend himself from.
This play was a fairly good one although not one of my favorites it has many points that might even relate to how certain parts of the world still live and how certain people from certain economic classes may act.
The zoo story review
The Zoo Story written by Edward Albee is a play script that pits a middle class American against a lower class one in terms of ideals among other things.
Peter the middle class American lives a decent life with a job, a wife and two girls he lives comfortably, the ideal American one would say. Jerry on the other hand is the opposite with no stability in his life he lives on his own living day to day with no actual life to live.
Edward Albee writes an astounding script which I believe can be interpreted in more than one way. As you can see in the pictures ,which are from the Black rat production version Of The Zoo Story, there is really just a bench in the story no actual background so to speak of. Although the play can be seen as two people it might also be seen as one mans effort to kill off a part of him that he may not like thus bringing in a representation of what one would could consider to be an internal struggle which is can be related to most people at one point or another.
Edward Albee writes a compelling story and even though Jerry is a bit crazy you cant help but feel a bit bad because he was at the point where he had no one but himself and the main reason for him being at the park was really to find somebody or anybody really that could give him a solution in life.
I find this script to be an amazing piece of work and rather enjoy looking at the script in both of the ways I had described as it puts a spin on the story and cn be read almost as two entirely different stories.
True West review
True west by Sam Shepherd is a play based on the dysfunctional and strained relationship between two brothers, Lee and Austin. Lee is the drifter who never amounted to anything that has recently returned home much to his brother Austin's surprise. Austin is the polar opposite of Lee with a job writing scripts and on the path to success he had recently sold his script to a movie producer.
Sam Shepherd keeps the whole play in one location which is the kitchen of Sam and Austin's mother in her Southern California home. This seems to be a pivotal move by Shepherd as it changes a bit through the play based on the characters and how much comes between them. The setting itself starts with Austin who is working on his script and begins to turn into a madhouse look with papers and other items strewn everywhere as the play progresses.
The pictures above show the main characters Austin and Lee as well as the movie producer Saul. According to the script these are fairly accurate depictions of the characters and the character of Lee really has the most accurate look with his dirty overcoat and gruff look. Austin has the simple look with his blue shirt and dress pants while Saul lacks the flower print shirt in this production by Citizen Theatre.
Overall I found this play to be a good piece of work with much drama between the brothers as they seem to switch roles towards the end off the play which in my opinion was a really solid twist to the story
